Michael P. Byrne

Partner - Registered Patent Attorney

Michael Byrne, a registered patent attorney, joined the firm in March 2018 after practicing for 14 years, including as a partner in the seventh-largest IP law firm in the United States. Mike has wide experience in intellectual property law, including securing domestic and international patent protection in the chemical, nanotechnology, advanced materials, superhydrophobic surfaces, renewable biopolymers, cosmetics, metallurgical, mechanical, medical device, automotive, aerospace, marine, computer product, business method, and biotechnological arts.

Mike also provides services relating to negotiation of patent and trademark licenses, enforcement of intellectual property rights, conducting non-infringement and freedom to practice studies, and has successfully handled a variety of other intellectual property (IP) issues, for example, IP Due Diligence in support of mergers and acquisitions, IP licensing, and Trademark Oppositions.

Mike has valuable industrial experience as a process/quality engineer at a private chemical company specializing in coatings for architectural, industrial, and electrical applications. His responsibilities included not only designing new equipment and performing economic analyses, but also managing the implementation of all capital projects.

Mike holds an LL.M. degree in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from The George Washington University Law School, and a J.D. degree from The Duquesne University School of Law, where he was a member of the Duquesne Law Review. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, where his course work included an additional focus on polymer science and polymer processing.
